Foreign Language and Area Studies Grants

 The U.S. Department of Education funds the Foreign Language and Area Studies Grants, which are summertime fellowships that provide up to $5,000 for studying a critical language abroad.

Latin American languages offered include Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Quechua, and Quichua in locations including Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, and Peru. Critical languages in other global regions, such as the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, are also offered through FLAS grants.
